For months after the tragic loss of my cousin, the only things sustaining me were walking by the water at sunset, and painting. Everything else was dull and heavy, but I felt my heart lift in these moments. This piece is reverent and celebratory, made in gratitude for the spark of life found despite depair.

Fluid mediums hold the memory of the water which animated them, suspending the moment in this living visual record. I use flower essences and rosewater when I paint, in devotion to the water itself, as well as to the holy moment of creation.
