For months after the tragic loss of my cousin, the only things sustaining me were walking by the water at sunset, and painting. Everything else was dull and heavy, but I felt my heart lift in these moments. This piece is reverent and celebratory, made in gratitude for the spark of life found despite depair.

I take my experience, my feelings, my hopes, fears, thoughts, desires, grief, plans, questions… and I synthesize and make something from them, like dreams or poetry, with paint. With color, shape and movement. Rather than painting a sunset, the ocean, or a moment, I try to paint what things feel like and acknowledge that everything is always shifting and becoming, never just one solid thing.
